Final Destruction of GDR Buildings

By this time next week the GDR buildings (which have been slowly destroyed over 5+ years) will be gone. In its place will be a reconstructed Prussian Palace, damaged duiring WWII, that the Soviets did not rebuild (for obvious reasons) during their occupation. While I understand Berlin's desire to move on, I can't help but have sympathy for the East Berliners who grew up with this community 'hang-out' that had cinemas and even bowling alleys. It also feels more than a bit like sweeping a secret under the rug.











One thing for certain, the reconstructed palace will most likely fit in a bit more harmoniously with its immediate surroundings.
